Certainly we have not gone over all of the ways to read the Bible, but my hope is that you feel more empowered to understand the Scriptures in a way that you have not before.
We cannot conclude this series, however, without talking about the single most important aspect of biblical interpretation. Consider with me the following Scripture:
"But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you." John 14:26
This verse is the key to unlocking not just the content but the power contained in God's Word, a power that will change you if you will let it. The Holy Spirit, not our intellect, will teach you all things. Bible study is no different than studying for history, science, or math in school unless we allow the Holy Spirit to teach us the things contained within the pages of our Bible.
A while back I watched an episode of the show Wife Swap (Don't judge me). The husband of one of the wives was an athiest biblical scholar. Here was someone who knew a lot about the Bible, but knew nothing of what it really contains. While not atheists, when we do not allow the Holy Spirit to teach us, we might learn a lot about God from reading the Bible, but we don't truly come to know God.
When you sit down to spend time in God's Word, no matter what "method" you use, always begin by praying this simple prayer:
Holy Spirit, you and you alone are capable of teaching me that which is contained in this wonderful book. I ask you to do just that. Open my eyes to things I have not seen before and draw me closer to you thorugh your Word.
All of us here at Abba's House are praying this over your study time.
